About College Hockey Recruiting & NCAA Hockey Scholarships

Hockey is one of the fastest growing sports – with strong high school and college presences throughout the country.

Each year, there are over 40,000 high school Hockey players and of those players, fewer than 500 men and 400 women make it to the college ranks each year as a NCAA Hockey player for one of the 211 NCAA hockey teams.

And while being recruited for college Hockey is becoming more difficult, earning a Hockey scholarship is even tougher. The NCAA has strict regulations regarding the number of athletic scholarships available for each university and each NCAA sport. In Division I, the NCAA permits approximately 18 Hockey scholarships per men's team and 18 per women's team. In Division II, the NCAA allows approximately 13.5 Hockey scholarships per men's team and 18 per women's.

Remember – athletic scholarships across all non-revenue sports (including men’s and women’s softball) are not necessarily “full rides.” Athletic scholarships can be partial scholarships and can be distributed across multiple players.
